How did my MP vote in Boris Johnson no confidence ballot? Search full list of statements

Boris Johnson is reeling from a no confidence vote that he barely scraped through, with 41% of his MPs choosing to topple him from power.

Monday night’s 211-148 result was worse than the ballot for Theresa May that led to her resigning five months later.

And it was only slightly better than the 1990 result for Margaret Thatcher which prompted the Iron Lady’s downfall.

With the vote conducted in secret and rumours of a reshuffle flying, Tory whips’ minds will be turning to who, exactly, tried to oust their dear leader.

So as a public service, we’ve turned our minds to exactly the same topic - and found it’s easier than you might think to track them down.

We trawled the public statements of all 359 Tory MPs who voted, marking down in an interactive widget (scroll down to view) if they said they were for Boris Johnson, against him, or unclear.

As of 7am on Wednesday 8 June, we counted 190 who were publicly “for” the PM - almost all of the 211 who actually voted for him.

But only 52 MPs had publicly declared against him, out of 148 who genuinely voted “no confidence” on Monday.

That suggests the vast majority of the 117 MPs we recorded as being “unclear” - releasing either coded statements or saying nothing on their vote at all - actually voted against the Prime Minister.

Of course, we’ll never know exactly who voted which way, due to the ballot secrecy.

And ministers have been under enormous pressure to confirm they backed the PM, so it’s possible some could have lied and said they backed him when actually they voted against him.

But our numbers (which, if you’re an MP or aide, you’re welcome to update by e-mailing dan.bloom[at]mirror.co.uk) tell stories of their own.

Among those that didn’t publicly confirm how they voted were ministers like Penny Mordaunt, often touted as a leadership hopeful.

Meanwhile, the list of “against” MPs threw up new names we didn’t know about before - the most prominent being One Nation Tory and former deputy PM Damian Green.

He wrote: “I have thought throughout the process that it was best to wait for all the evidence to emerge before reaching a conclusion.

“Once that evidence was produced, it was necessary to strike the right balance between the genuine achievements of the Government and the failure to maintain proper standards of behaviour during the lockdowns.

“Today’s vote was the right time to reach that conclusion, and with great sadness I voted that I had no confidence in the Prime Minister."

Other ‘new’ names on the list of those voting 'no confidence' included Philip Davies, Paul Holmes, Philip Dunne, Julian Lewis, Mark Pawsey, Andrew Lewer, Neil Hudson, Mark Francois and Derek Thomas.
