How Chelsea can afford dream Joao Felix transfer despite huge Atletico Madrid asking price

Todd Boehly has been told how Chelsea can afford the signing of Joao Felix in the summer despite Atletico Madrid's steep asking price. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window but, after the Blues swooped in, he opted for a switch to west London instead.

Despite only featuring a handful of times for Chelsea, Felix's impressive performances have quickly seen him become a regular in Graham Potter's side. The Portugal international has made a great impression since arriving at Stamford Bridge on loan, so much so that Todd Boehly is said to be a huge fan.

According to Relevo, the American billionaire wants to see if a move is possible. The report states that the Blues have scheduled talks with the Spanish giants next month to discuss a potential switch, with a decision to be made in May.

However, according to reports from Spain, Atletico are set to demand €140million (£124.5million) for the Portuguese star. Diego Simeone's side signed Felix from Benfica in 2019 for £113million so they'll likely want to recoup as much of the fee as possible.

Speaking to ESPN, Frank Leboeuf claimed that Chelsea should do everything it takes to sign the forward in the summer - even if it means offloading Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount to garner enough funds. The former Blues star said: "Joao Felix is a great player.

"I think he’s the most dangerous player, the most entertaining player, the most artistic player at Chelsea right now. He’s been pretty consistent too, almost every game he creates something.

"Hopefully Chelsea will be able to sell a few players – maybe Pulisic and Mount – and can then get Felix on a permanent. It would be a lot of money, that’s the only worry for the owners. But in terms of a football player, I would sign him."

Ahead of the international break, Felix addressed rumours over his future in west London. Portugal will be locking horns with Liechtenstein and Luxembourg in the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers this month.

"I'm not gonna speak about clubs as I'm here with Portugal," he said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. "I can just say that I'm enjoying my new life at Chelsea and I'm adapting well to this new chapter."
