How Championship striker has fared so far this season after summer Bolton Wanderers transfer link

The January transfer window is little over a month away and Bolton Wanderers are poised to be active in the market.

Both incomings and outgoings are set to be on the cards at the Whites at the start of 2023 as Ian Evatt makes changes to his squad. Wanderers are aiming to maintain their place in the top six, which was their target for the season.

Bolton made a total of five signings last summer. Of these, two were permanent in the form of defenders Eoin Toal and Jack Iredale from Derry City and Cambridge United respectively.

Three more players were acquired on loan. James Trafford returned for the campaign from Manchester City after a successful second half of last season at Bolton, while Conor Bradley and Owen Beck both joined from Liverpool.

Wanderers boss Evatt has previously confirmed that ins and outs are poised to take place at the Whites in January. Of potential incomings, a striker is on the shopping list, should his current crop of forwards experience struggles in front of goal.

One link which emerged on the eve of the summer transfer window coming to an end was for QPR forward Macauley Bonne. Wanderers were among several sides linked with the striker's services.

Eventually a move to fellow League One side Charlton Athletic looked to be on the cards, only for this to fall through. Bonne has since remained at Loftus Road, but how has he fared this season?

Bonne has ultimately struggled for game time this season in West London. He has a total of nine appearances to his name in all competitions, two of which have been starts, with no goals so far.

Since the speculation over his future on the eve of the previous transfer window closing, Bonne has made five appearances in the Championship, all of which have been from the bench. He also started the EFL Cup first round loss on penalties to Charlton Athletic.

With the Championship currently on hiatus for a month owing to the World Cup in Qatar, like many other clubs, QPR have been playing friendly matches to maintain fitness and match sharpness.

The most recent of these for the R's took place yesterday when they beat Scottish outfit Livingston 2-1. Bonne was on the scoresheet and netted what proved to be the winner in the encounter.

Bonne will soon have a new boss at Loftus Road, following Michael Beale's departure to Old Firm side Rangers. Paul Hall is currently in interim charge of the Championship side and it remains to be seen if Bonne comes back into regular favour at the R's or if he could be on the move in January.
