Despite Duran's early impact, Celtic suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Portuguese giants. Three goals were conceded within six minutes at the Estadio Algarve in Faro.

Substitute goalkeeper Ross Doohan was dispossessed in the box, leading to Daniel Bragança's first of two goals for Sporting.

Two additional goals in the penalty area sealed the victory for the Portuguese side.
