The Saudi Pro League has continued to flex its financial might this week after Al Ettifaq appointed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
After some initial doubt about the move, the Reds' icon put pen to paper with the Saudi Arabian club on a two-year deal. Gerrard has experienced a mixed bag in management so far where, after a successful stint at Rangers where he won the Scottish Premier League, he then then left to join Aston Villa where he endured a tough time before being relieved of his duties in October 2022.
The Saudi Pro League has been growing in popularity this summer after the glitzy arrivals of such players as Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and Ruben Neves, while Roberto Firmino is reportedly heading to the league.
This all follows the league's prized capture of Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr in December 2022.
Clubs such as Al Ittihad, Al Hilal and Al Ahli have been making waves in the transfer market and now Al Ettifaq have made their big statement with the acquisition of Gerrard, and the club may not stop there as rumours swirl they may look to bag the signature of Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.
