Plans to help Bristol achieve its green targets are accelerating this year with tens of thousands of new trees expected in the local area. Tree planting remains one of the key metrics of combatting the climate breakdown not only in this city but over the world.
From 2001 to 2020, the United Kingdom lost 481 kilohectares of tree cover, equivalent to a 13 per cent decrease in tree cover according to Global Forest Watch. Although this doesn't take replanting into account, it still highlights the level of deforestation happening on our doorstep.
Alex Stone, deputy executive director of the Forest of Avon Trust explained how every tree planted is a step further towards rebalancing our support systems helping to remove excess carbon and pollution from our atmosphere. This helps improve water quality and flow and cools the land down.
