How Arsenal warned Leicester about Gabriel Jesus wonder goal with Martin Odegaard pre-match hint

Arsenal gave Leicester City some notice of what to expect from Gabriel Jesus before the match. The Foxes didn't listen and were instead punished by the Brazilian. Here is his expert finish.

After an opening half an hour where they didn't look likely to score.

Perhaps Leicester could have given themselves a helping hand in stopping Mikel Arteta's side, though, had they read the matchday programme.

In it, new captain Martin Odegaard spoke to the home fans ahead of his first match as skipper and was full of joy at the prospect of playing with Jesus. The new attacker has started life in London brilliantly after a stellar pre-season and now has his first league goal.

His wonderful chip on his competitive home debut is exactly what Arsenal have been after. A moment of inspiration and skill coming from their new talisman. But Brendan Rodgers can't say he wasn't warned.

Jesus then nodded in at the back post from a corner, and the Foxes were left rueing their sloppy defending to allow a clinical forward that much room. It's some that the new captain has come to expect, though. Odegaard was full of praise for his new attacking partner, saying, "I know that it's important that I build a good understanding with Gabriel Jesus early as well. Against Palace, we didn't have too many combinations, but he did play me in for the chance in the second half.

"I should have taken a shot, and that would have been a great start for us together. But I think our combination play was really good in pre-season, and we have a great connection in training too. I enjoy so much playing with him, so hopefully, we can see more of that in the next games."

Although Odegaard was a mere passer-by to Jesus' wizardry, the sense that Arsenal have now got one of the league's most feared strikers is a new one. It won't be long before new plans are discovered to stop Jesus, but for a man with 87 goal contributions at nearly one every other match, he is already revelling in the spotlight at Arsenal.
