How 12 Everton players are faring out on loan as Sean Dyche sent transfer reminder ahead of summer

While Sean Dyche has been keeping a watchful eye over his Premier League squad since making the move to Everton, he'll no doubt have been keeping track of developments elsewhere involving some of the club's players.

The Blues currently have 12 players out on loan across Europe, experiencing varying degrees of success as they stake their claim for a place in Dyche's side next season, or potentially a move away from Goodison Park.

We've taken a look at how each of those players have been faring so far this season.

Dele Alli - Besiktas

Since a less-than flattering spell at Goodison, Alli has moved to Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas. With 15 appearances so far this season, the former Tottenham star has a return of three goals and zero assists. His time at the Turkish club seems similar to his Everton stint, in and out with little success, with Besiktas boss Senol Gunes has been less-than complimentary about him at times. Alli’s contract at Goodison ends this summer.

Andre Gomes - LOSC Lille

Moving to France after four years with the Blues, Gomes has made 18 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring once and assisting twice - both against Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain. An astute technical player on his day, the French league’s slower tempo seems to be suiting the Portugal international. Gomes’ contract expires this summer.

Niels Nkounkou - Saint-Etienne

The left-back moved to the French second division club in January after a spell at Cardiff City earlier in the season. Since the switch over the channel, Nkounkou has registered eight appearances, picking up one goal and a respectable four assists. Nkounkou’s loan contract has an option to buy, with his deal at Goodison ending in 2024.

Jarrad Branthwaite - PSV Eindhoven

The former Carlisle centre-back moved to the Netherlands last summer, and has impressed during his time at PSV playing 27 times across four competitions, including two appearances in Champions League clashes. The 20-year-old has used his significant height to his advantage during his time there, scoring four goals. Branthwaite has spoken about the possibility of staying with PSV in the summer, while he has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United, but he may well come into contention at his parent club.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin - Trabzonspor

After a torrid time suffering with injury at Everton, Gbamin was loaned to Turkish side Trabzonspor last summer. Making 20 appearances so far, the Ivorian has already featured more times than he did at the Blues. Gbamin has featured a lot from the bench with seven of his 15 league appearances coming as a substitute. Gbamin is contracted to the Toffees until June 2024.

Joao Virginia - SC Cambuur

The Portuguese goalkeeper moved to the Eredivisie side last summer and has made 18 appearance in all competitions, gaining some valuable experience between the sticks. His Goodison contract expires in June 2024, although with Jordan Pickford signing a new contract, it's difficult to see when his opportunities might arise.

Tom Cannon - Preston North End

The young centre-forward made the short trip to Preston after featuring for Everton a couple of times under Frank Lampard. The 20-year-old has featured 10 times in the Championship and FA Cup for the Lancashire club, scoring one goal in the process. Cannon is contracted to Everton until June 2025.

Tyler Onyango - Forest Green Rovers

Onyango moved to Duncan Ferguson’s side in late January, switching from his original loan spell at Burton Albion where he featured 24 times. In his second appearance for Rovers, Onyango picked up a knock, with Ferguson now confirming “He’s back at Everton. He got an operation, and he is back there rehabilitating.” The time frame of recovery is unknown with Ferguson admitting he would be surprised to see him back this season. Onyango’s contract with the Blues expires in the summer of 2025.

Ryan Astley - Accrington Stanley

Making the move to Accrington Stanley in July, Astley has registered 32 appearances with four goals. However, the Welshman picked up an ankle injury during a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln City at the beginning of February, and hasn't featured since. The 21-year-old’s contract expires this summer.

Lewis Dobbin - Derby County

The Englishman was loaned to Derby County in August. Dobbin has appeared 44 times and scored five goals for the Rams, with his first-team experience no doubt proving invaluable for the 20-year-old moving forward. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Lewis Warrington - Fleetwood Town

Warrington made the switch in early September. Making 27 league one appearances so far with 25 of those coming from the start, Warrington has become a mainstay in the Cods’ midfield. The 20-year-old's contract expires at Goodison in the summer of 2024.

Harry Tyrer - Chester FC

Moving to Chester from Goodison in July, the young keeper has made 36 appearances in a team bidding for promotion from the National League North. Picking up 13 clean sheets, Tyrer has been an assured presence between the sticks. His contract expires in June 2025.
