On Monday, Yemen's Houthi rebels made headlines by launching missiles and drones at Israel. According to Houthi army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, two missiles were fired at Israeli military sites in Jaffa and Tel Aviv. Saree claimed that both missiles successfully hit their intended targets.
Earlier in the day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they had intercepted a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen. The Israeli Air Force successfully thwarted the missile, but fragments of the intercepted projectile caused fires in Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem, which were promptly extinguished by Israeli fire crews.
In addition to the missile attacks, Saree stated that the Houthis had also launched drones into Jaffa and Eilat in Israel. However, the IDF stated that they were not aware of any drone launches originating from Yemen.
Saree explained that the attacks on Israel were carried out in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, as well as in solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance movements.
This incident underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the complex geopolitical dynamics at play. The international community will be closely monitoring the situation as it continues to develop.
