Why will I love it?
The jewel orchid (Ludisia discolour, one of the lesser-known varieties) is a beautiful, low-maintenance plant. With its glossy leaves and unusual leaf markings resembling shattered glass, it makes a striking addition to any home or office.

Bright, indirect light.
Where should I put it?
Though this plant does prefer bright, indirect light, it can tolerate lower light levels. An east- or west-facing windowsill works well.
How do I keep it alive?
The key is to provide the right amount of light and moisture. The jewel orchid should be watered once a week, and its soil should be well-draining to prevent water from standing in the pot. To decide whether the plant needs water, stick your finger in the soil to check the moisture level. Fertilise the plant every two to four weeks during the growing season. Keep it in a well-ventilated area – near a window perhaps – to help prevent mould and mildew from developing.
