House Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Friday that there are expected votes to take place in the morning, indicating that a plan is in place for an upcoming meeting with Vice President-elect JD Vance and members of the House Freedom Caucus. The meeting is anticipated to address the spending bill deadlock following the recent rejection of the Trump-backed bill aimed at averting a partial government shutdown.

The gathering on Capitol Hill is seen as a crucial effort to find a resolution to the impasse. Notably, Russ Vought, Trump's nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget, was observed entering Speaker Johnson's office earlier in the day. When questioned about the possibility of avoiding a government shutdown, Vought did not provide a response.
