Winter is here and that means the Game Of Thrones prequel, House Of The Dragon, is too.
Headlined by The Crown and Doctor Who star Matt Smith and Thoroughbreds’ Olivia Cooke, the very popular prequel tells the story of the House of Targaryen, the relatives of GoT‘s Daenerys Targaryen, famously played by Emilia Clarke.
Following the announcement that the prequel was renewed for a second season, die-hard fans were drip-fed information about the new episodes—first stills, a trailer and then, finally, a release.
Here, we collate that information—read on for everything you need to know about House Of The Dragon season 2.
What is House Of The Dragon about?
The series is based on George R. R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, published in 2018. Set three centuries before the story of Game Of Thrones, the series follows the origins of the House of Targaryen, shedding new insight into the lineage of the Mother of Dragons.
The House of Targaryen, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria, is led by Aegon the Conqueror. In season one, we watched older generations of Targaryens fight for the Iron Throne.
Season 2 sees the continuation of this beef, highlighting the deep feud between the family’s two factions, led by the late King Viserys’ wife, Alicent Hightower and daughter, Princess Rhaenyra.
Will House Of The Dragon have a third season?
After the series’ first episode garnered 20 million viewers worldwide, it was a no-brainer that the fantasy prequel had earned its stripes amongst fans.
The streaming networks have even applauded the show, with the United Kingdom’s Sky calling the show a “ratings hit”, and the creator of the show HBO claiming that the first episode had a viewership of 20 million people.
So, it comes as no surprise to fans that the series has officially been renewed for a third season—while the second is still airing.
Who is in the cast of House Of The Dragon?
Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) once again stars as Prince Daemon Targaryen in season 2, alongside Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Thoroughbreds) as Alicent Hightower.
Joining them once again are Steve Toussaint who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II and Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond.
