House Majority Leader Steve Scalise was noncommittal about whether the debt ceiling would make it into any deal to avert a government shutdown, as he left the Capitol shortly after Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Scalise mentioned that discussions are ongoing with members and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on key issues. He emphasized that disaster relief and farm aid are essential components that must be included in any legislation.

Despite the ongoing talks, Scalise acknowledged that a final agreement has not been reached yet. He expressed a commitment to continue working diligently to reach a consensus that can be brought to the floor for consideration.

When questioned about President-elect Donald Trump's stance on a bipartisan package, Scalise highlighted the importance of starting the new presidency on a solid foundation. He emphasized the collective focus on addressing critical issues and ensuring a smooth transition.
