The UK is set for a baking start to the week as temperatures across the country will surpass those in Jamaica, the Maldives and the Bahamas, though the North East will not quite hit those heights.
According to the Met Office, much of the day in the North East will be 25°C or higher - so it'll be one to spend by the seaside or, if you're at work, as close to a fan or air conditioning as possible. It could be the hottest day of the year for the UK, with temperatures predicted to hit 33°C elsewhere, slightly higher than the record temperature for 2022 so far of 32.7°C at Heathrow, reports WalesOnline.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to high 20s until the end of this week, with a cold front approaching to drive town the mercury. However, until then a heat-health alert has been issued for some parts of the UK, with those in affected areas advised to shade or cover windows and check on the vulnerable and the elderly.
Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst told the PA news agency: "For most of us it will be a dry and sunny day, well into the high 20s from the morning, with central, southern and eastern parts of England to possibly see maximum highs of 33C. So it’s very possible tomorrow will be the hottest day of the year so far, it will certainly be on par with the existing record, maybe more.
"It will also be very warm overnight going into Tuesday, remaining in the low 20s in cities, so many may experience an uncomfortable night."
The forecast across the North East is milder than some of those areas mentioned above, but is expected to remain sunny overall. For Newcastle, here is an hour-by-hour forecast for Monday and the latest three-hourly forecast for Tuesday:
