Nottingham is set to face a coronation washout according to some forecasts this weekend - with hours of rain predicted on Saturday. The BBC has the chances of showers all day from 11am - midnight on May 6 at 50 per cent or higher - meaning anyone planning a garden barbecue or street party might need to bring their brolly.
The Met Office is warning that thunderstorms could hit on Sunday and although temperatures are likely to be reasonable, around 17C, it is going to be very unsettled. Nottingham Castle will be reopening to the public for the first time since last November as its grounds screen both the Coronation service and concert. Street parties are being staged across the county and other events are being organised by neighbours, schools and care homes.
The Met Office said for the East Midlands: “Low cloud lifting Saturday morning to give sunny spells and showers. Cloud and rain arriving Saturday evening, lifting into heavy, thundery showers through Sunday. Cloudy with outbreaks of rain Monday.”
