Wales' heatwave is expected to come to an abrupt end after after the weekend but this will bring a period of more uncertain thundery weather. There are currently two severe weather warnings in place for thunderstorms in Wales covering Monday and Tuesday with the Met Office indicating that they may extend them for south Wales until the end of Wednesday.
To help you plan your week and avoid getting caught in the rain WalesOnline spoke to Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud. He has given us a breakdown of what we can expect in Wales into the start of next week.

Monday morning – storms sweeping in from the west
Dan explained: "We're expecting heavy localised thundery showers to move in from the north and west on Monday morning. So around 6am the showers are anticipated to be in the line roughly from north to south from Pembrokeshire to Anglesey with some heavier bursts over the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.
"By 9am we anticipate those showers really to reach the Welsh Marches. So we're making fairly swift progress eastward across Wales during the course of Monday."
Monday afternoon – showers in isolated areas but more sun in the north
In the afternoon how bad the weather is near you is going to be a bit of a lottery. "By midday we've got a fair amount of cloud across the bulk of Wales," said Dan. "But we've still got those showers over of eastern districts of Wales. By mid-afternoon onward we're looking at isolated showers across almost anywhere in Wales with a few sort of sunnier breaks, especially across the north.
"It'd be a gradual improvement during the course of the day but we can't rule out any further isolated showers during the course of the afternoon. But, as with the nature of showers, some places down the road could have absolutely nothing at all and be very, very dry all day but just up the road can be quite a downpour and quite an event."
Monday night into early Tuesday morning – south Wales sees most of the rain
"The threat of showers gradually diminishes during the overnight period," explained Dan. "But there is a renewed push of showers Tuesday morning from the south and west. By 6am on Tuesday we are expecting showers across all south Wales as far north as Aberystwyth and Builth Wells."
Tuesday – uncertain but north Wales will see the best of the weather
Forecaster Dan said: "It becomes increasingly more broad brush as we move into Tuesday. By midday there will be heavy showers across much south and mid Wales – that neck of the woods. Some of those showers will be locally heavy and thundery. We can't rule out further showers throughout the afternoon period but by close to midnight the threat of showers starts to diminish a little. Across north Wales we're anticipating improvement but across south Wales and also southern England there is again the potential for some heavy showers and some high totals of rain."
Wednesday – possibly another warning for the south of Wales
At present there is no weather warning for Wales on Wednesday. However there is a warning in place for the south west of England and the Met Office has told WalesOnline that "it wouldn't be outside the bounds of possibility" that this warning might be extended to include parts of south Wales.
