Ireland could see the hottest day of the year so far over the weekend as the weather takes a turn for the better.
High pressure looks set to build over the country from Friday, with Met Eireann saying it will lead to “dry, warm and settled conditions, with temperatures possibly reaching the low 20s”.
If temperatures do reach the low 20s in the coming days, it would beat this year’s record of 20.9C which was hit on May 15.

The warmest weather can be expected in the south of the country on Saturday and Sunday, with the national forecaster saying it “will be a little cooler in the north due to the onshore breeze”.
However, most areas should enjoy bright and sunny conditions with people being advised to “dig out the suncream”.
Weather expert Alan O’Reilly shared a number of models on his Carlow Weather Twitter page showing lots of sunshine and rising temperatures.
He said: “Time to dig out that sun cream, plenty of sunshine over Friday and the weekend.”
It comes ahead of a big weather change next week with temperatures returning to more normal levels and the return of rain.
Met Eireann said: “Early next week low pressure looks set to move in from the Atlantic, bringing more unsettled conditions once again. Overall though rainfall amounts are expected to be below average for late May, and temperatures will end up around average.”
