LUDHIANA: The city witnessed the hottest day of the ongoing summer season on Friday, when the maximum temperature crossed 40 degrees mark.
As per the meteorological department, the maximum (day) temperature on the day was 40.7 degrees Celsius, which is 7.6 degrees more than normal.
A day before, it was 39.7 degrees Celsius, around 6.6 degrees more than normal. The minimum (night) temperature was recorded at 19.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees more than normal and 0.6 degree more than a day before. The department said heatwave conditions prevailed.
A Chandigarh meteorological department official said, “For the next four days, the weather is expected to be mainly clear. Both the day and the night temperatures are likely to remain above normal. The day temperature is expected to reach 42 degrees on Sunday.” The department website shows the day temperature is expected to drop to 39 degrees by Wednesday. The night temperature might rise to 21 degrees by Tuesday. The all-time-high temperature of 46.1 degrees was recorded on April 29, 1941.
