Hottest 100: The Wiggles take out triple j's annual music countdown, with The Kid LAROI and Billie Eilish in the top five — as it happened

Children's music legends The Wiggles make the Hottest 100 for the first time, securing top spot with the first Like a Version cover to win the countdown.

Teen sensation The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber took out second place with Stay, while Spacey Jane rounded out the top three with Lots of Nothing.

Look back over the countdown as it happened.

How to listen to the Hottest 100

By Jon Healy

That will do us for today

Thanks so much for sticking with us today.

It was a really fun time and hope you enjoyed yourselves.

I'm going to bid farewell, but pop culture reporter Mawunyo Gbogbo will have a wrap of the top 10 live shortly. You can find that at ABC News.

You can also go back through the countdown, including 101-200, on the Hottest 100 website.

And don't forget to donate to Lifeline if you can.

What's still to come?

The Hottest 100 weekend wraps up tomorrow with a full replay of the countdown from 2001. So make sure you pop over to Double J to relive, or discover some older bangers.

As they play it again, check out the behind the scenes

The idea actually came from a listener. I hope that person's getting some sort of prize today.

I know some people aren't happy about this, but honestly, after a year of absolute garbage, it's a bit of fun. This isn't for sheep stations. I'm confident The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber will be OK.

Murray, Lachie and Anthony are speaking to the Js

Lachie: "To be number one ... I'm shaking, literally."

Anthony says he learned about the Hottest 100 last year. Really? He also said The Wiggles have a version of this year's number 14 Apple Crumble, by Cordi Elba.

Well we have to hear that now.

Apparently Jeff said he was going to get a haircut like the lads from The Chats if they won. Even though it's a Tame Impala song. I think Jeff might just want a mullet.

Anthony: "This is one of the biggest things to ever happen to us."

Wigging out!

Key Event

Number 1: Elephant, by The Wiggles

Amazing.

It's their first entry into the Hottest 100 after 30 years as a band doing Big Red Car, Cold Spaghetti and performing for millions of kids. And suddenly, with this cover of Tame Impala's Elephant, one of Australia's biggest exports has made a bit more history.

First kids' group to win, and the first Like A Version to win the Hottest 100.

Up The Wiggles! The Hooly Doolies could never.

A couple of shout-outs to Anthony for playing in an elephant costume throughout, Murray for coming back to help out on guitar, and Emma Wiggle (from a dancing, not musical background) for nailing the drumming in a song that has all sorts of weird, screwy time signatures and off-beat rhythms. Another iconic woman to top the list.

Also, props to Lachlan Gillespie's enunciation for helping me understand the lyrics.

2: Stay, by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber

It's another TikTok bop!

The year for me really kicked off with Penrith Panthers star Nathan Cleary dancing to this song in someone's TikTok. He got in trouble for a breach of COVID protocol. It really encapsulates the year for me.

Number two goes to that collaboration between an emerging Indigenous superstar and one of the world's biggest pop stars.

3: Lots Of Nothing by Spacey Jane

It's the second straight podium finish for the Spaced-Out Janes. Second last year with Booster Seat and now bronze with Lots Of Nothing.

And I'm happy for them, but I kind of can't get over the fact that this countdown is coming down to The Wiggles vs Kid LAROI and Biebs.

4: Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo

Congratulations to Olivia Rodrigo and Hayley Williams.

Another iconic break-up song. This countdown is vitriolic af.

And this, kids, is why you NEVER treat a songwriter like crap. Also, you know, just being a decent human is pretty cool.

18 years old, debut album, five songs in the Hottest 100, including number four.

On the flipside of the career timeline, The Wiggles are going to be in the top three!

5: Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish

She says she's Happier Than Ever, but she really sounds bummed.

For real though, what a hauntingly, depressingly, good song.

And again, she is still only 20 years old. What. The. Hell.

And I don't talk shit about you on the internet;

Never told anyone anything bad;

'Cause that shit's embarrassing, you were my everything;

And all that you did was make me f***ing sad;

So don't waste the time I don't have;

Don't try to make me feel bad

"Don't waste the time I don't have" is so powerful.

Please keep trying. That means a lot of people are going there. Almost at $1 million!

Audience comment by Shannon

Obsessed with Lil Nas X! Completely unapologetic queer Black man. Icon.

6: Angel of 8th Avenue by Gang of Youths

This is their third trip to the top 10, after having 5 and 2 in 2017.

They wer also sixth in the Hottest of the Decade with Magnolia.

By Jon Healy

7: Kiss Me More by Doja Cat (feat. SZA)

Doja's gotta be feline herself with her fifth song of this year's countdown. SZA not having a bad 100 either.

Another TikTok anthem for the list. I personally don't Tok, but I have Instagram and they all end up their anyway, so...

If you don't recognise the name of the song, I promise you'd recognise some of the five-second clips.

8: Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow's Industry Baby

This has one of those beats that you just know will be used as pump-up music for years to come.

Fort Minor and Lose Yourself areas.

9: RÜFÜS DU SOL has a third

It's On My Knees.

The Aussie-bred, US-based trio released this as their third single last year, so it's fitting it's their third entry this year.

Here's what Al Newstead had to say about this one...

This one's a darker, thumping tune. The group say they drew references to the industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor (last heard producing Halsey's latest opus), contrasting the yearning vocals of Tyrone Linqvist with ominous digital crunch, far-off singers, and what sounds like a heavily processed elephant blowing through its trunk. Take a listen below.

10: Lil Nas X kicks us off with Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

Not much more to be said about this gay anthem. Just watch the video...

OK. Top 10. The real pointy end.

By Jon Healy

11th spot goes to Tom Cardy

HYCYBH (Have You Checked Your Butthole)

I don't care if it's base-level comedy, but this still makes me laugh.

Oh, strong language warning on this one, including a big ol' C-bomb.

"My mum hates this song," Tom says on the Js.
