Hotel prices at the 2024 Summer Olympics will shock you

For French hotels, 2023 may go down as the year of the bedbugs, which reportedly have infested Parisian holes this autumn.

2024, however, will likely tell a different story. It should go down as the year of the Olympic Games hotel room overcharge.

That’s the takeaway from a review of early Paris hotel bookings for the 2024 Summer Olympics scheduled for July 26 to August 11 next year in the City of Light.

The data shows the average Paris nightly hotel stay during that period is three-and-a-half times the normal rate, according to Bloomberg.

At the high-end, a luxury suite during the Olympics is averaging over $1,000 per night while a four-star hotel nightly stay is averaging around $625 to $700. Typically, hotel stays during the summer months are priced in the $150 to $375 range.

Those prices aren’t stopping visitors from booking rooms, as 45% of Paris hotel rooms are already booked during the summer Olympics even though the Games are nine months away.

Airbnb, which is an official sponsor of the Summer Games, should also benefit from the skyrocketing cost of housing during the Olympics. While Airbnb stays normally average of $141 during the summer months in Paris, that figure will rise to an average of $471 per night next summer, according to Insidethegames.biz.

More Travel:

Airbnb prices are so high that in early August, the French Government mandated participating property rental platforms must publicly declare their intent to raise prices during high-tourist events like the Summer Olympics.

But what a sight visitors will see in Paris next summer.

Next summer’s Olympic Games are expected to attract 11 million visitors who’ll watch over 10,500 athletes around the world compete for gold medals, according to the Paris2424 website.

Visitors should expect a once-in-a-lifetime sporting spectacle in one of the most iconic cities on Earth.

“Paris’ iconic landmarks are being transformed into sporting arenas to offer spectators an unparalleled experience and provide an outstanding backdrop for sporting prowess.” Paris2424 states. The River Seine, for example, is scheduled to host some swimming and aquatics events during the Games.

Even the U.S. Olympic team is getting into the act. The entire entourage is staying at the former building that housed the Paris Stock Exchange during the summer Olympics.

Hopefully, for anyone staying in Paris, the bedbugs will have packed up and left before the Games begin.
