The tragic passing of Liam Payne has left the music world in shock. New alleged accounts from hotel guests at Casa Sur Palermo in Buenos Aires paint a troubling picture of the former One Direction star’s final hours.
Payne was in Argentina to support his former bandmate Niall Horan during his concert tour and was accompanied by his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who had left the country just two days before his death.
Michael Fleischmann, a guest at the hotel, shared his alleged encounter with Payne just hours before the incident. He described a heated exchange between Payne and an unidentified woman in the lobby, to Page Six.
According to Fleischmann, Payne repeatedly told the woman, “I’ll give you US$20,000 dollars just because I can. I have US$55 million and I like to help people.”
Fleischmann noted that Payne “seemed very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing, and seemed very energised.”
His mother, Toni Fleischmann, added that the woman appeared “extremely uncomfortable” and “a little apprehensive” during the interaction.
Another guest, Rebecca also told the Daily Mail about her alleged encounter with Payne in the elevator. She claimed he invited her and her friends, saying, “Yes, I’m Liam! All right, come on, you lot, get in the elevator with me. I love a cuddle.”
Rebecca described witnessing increasingly erratic behaviour, including Payne allegedly smashing his laptop after opening an email and shouting, “Fuck this shit, mate!”
Rebecca also recalled a moment when Payne allegedly told her, “I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so fucked up.”
The Argentinian prosecutor’s office has released preliminary autopsy findings, stating that Payne sustained multiple traumas, including internal and external bleeding.
Disturbingly, the report suggests that Payne may have been in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” when he fell.
Hotel staff reportedly made emergency calls prior to Payne’s fall, with one receptionist who warned, “We have a guest who is overindulged in drugs and alcohol and … well, when he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please,” per NBC News.
As the music industry and fans worldwide grapple with this loss, Cheryl Cole, mother of Payne’s son Bear, has pleaded for media restraint.
“I am begging you to consider what use some of these reports are serving,” she wrote on Instagram, asking for dignity in the coverage of Payne’s death.
Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy also addressed Payne’s death on her Instagram Stories, where she thanked everyone “for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way.”
She went on to say, “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
