Hot water bottle hack could be key to keeping you cool in bed as Met Eireann forecast temps of 27C

With temperatures expected to soar to even higher levels in the coming days, many Irish people are looking to find a way to keep cool in bed at night.

The solution could come with an unexpected household item, however, as a hot water bottle has been identified as a perfect way to keep the temperature down in bed.

Sleep experts over at French Bedroom have explained how hot water bottles aren't just for warming up the bed in the winter months, as they can also be used to cool the sheets down over the summer.

The tip is pretty self-explanatory, The Mirror reports, as it's as simple as filling the hot water bottle with cold water instead of hot, which can help lower your body temperature while you sleep.

Met Eireann has forecast high temperatures of 27C for Tuesday and Wednesday; though the highs will coincide with a Status Yellow thunderstorm and rain warning which is set to come into effect for Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Connacht, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath this afternoon. Overnight temperatures are not expected to drop below 13C.

Temperatures will cool slightly into the weekend, though they will remain in the mid-20s for most of the country.

With the high temperatures making it difficult for many to get to sleep at night, the hot water bottle trick is not the only way to keep cool.

Those struggling to keep their body temperature down could swap out a warm duvet for one with a lower tog rating - ideally between 1 and 4.5. Thin cotton sheets can also make all the difference.

Natural fibre bedding like linen and silk could also assist in ensuring you stay cool and comfortable at night.

In terms of pillows, firm ones are more conducive to dispersing the heat so these should be preferable over fluffy pillows in the summer months.
