Plans have been lodged to turn a former betting shop in Ayrshire into a hot food takeaway.
The former Coral Bookmakers in Portland Street, Troon, has been earmarked as the ideal site.
The bookies has been vacant for a considerable amount of time and now the owners are seeking to freshen up the site.
Plans have been lodged with South Ayrshire Council for a change of use to the premises.
And a supporting statement from the agents, Bennett Developments and Consulting, said: “It has been vacant for some considerable time and has been marketed for almost 15 months with little interest.
“The proposed development will see the change of use of this vacant bookmakers into a hot food takeaway.”
Externally, the only change, according to the proposals, will be the installation of an extraction system from the kitchen at the rear of the property.
The statement says: “This will provide effective management of all fumes, odours and heat which may emanate from the premises.
“This will be built to the highest standard and be attached to the building with vibration proof fastenings which will eliminate all vibration noises and at the same time protect the fabric of the building.
“These measures will ensure that the local amenity is not impacted by the new use.”
It is anticipated that opening hours will be from 10am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am to 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The applicant, Sava Estates, hope that the proposals, which will see an existing building ‘recycled,’ will also help provide employment opportunities for locals, and, at the same time, contribute to Troon’s night time economy.
The support statement said: “The proposed development will make a contribution to the local environment by recycling an empty property, introduce a new fast food experience and contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of the town centre.
“In the evenings and in the winter nights the splay of light from the windows will illuminate the footpath and engender a feeling of safety and security so important if the area is to be welcoming.
“This new venue can be introduced with no impact on the primacy of the retail function and will contribute to and extend the range of services and facilities available within the town, and should be supported.”
The application is listed as “pending consideration” on South Ayrshire Council’s online planning portal.
