When going into labour, one thing that happens to a woman ahead of giving birth is cervical dilation, as the cervix dilates from fully closed to 10 centimetres. This process can take a number of hours, days or even weeks in some people's cases but once you reach 6cm it's usually just a matter of hours before full dilation.
Many might be familiar with this process, but there are clearly plenty who have no clue exactly what this looks like. If you fall into the category of the latter, then fear not as a nurse has shared a look at the process on TikTok using pumpkins to illustrate her point. The video has since gone viral as many have branded the clip a Halloween "nightmare" and admitted to being spooked by it.
The pumpkins were uploaded by a Canadian nurse who posts under the username @nikita_lychuk.
It features the theme from the horror film Halloween and the camera pans along 10 pumpkins, each with the mouth carved to reflect the size of the cervix opening at each stage - going from 1cm to 10cm.
Each pumpkin looks more shocked than the last, with different facial expressions drawn on to them.
Captioning the video, Nikita simply wrote: "Maternity pumpkins".
Her video has since been viewed over 10 million times and garnered over 400,000 likes.
Thousands also replied to the post to share their horror over the footage while others thought it was perfect for Halloween.
One person said: "This is horrifying I can't believe I did this."
Another wrote: "I love that the eyebrows get angrier as you go."
A third posted: "Well that is spooky."
"That's the biggest nightmare I've ever seen," a fourth proclaimed.
Someone else commented: "This is true horror. Signed, a baby-less woman."
