CONISTON CLOUDS is fancied to build on a first career win, gained at Carlisle last month, by beating 11 rivals for the Berrymoss Bicentenary Handicap Hurdle (2.15) at Kelso.
The Nicky Richards-saddled son of Cloudings didn’t make the frame in three starts over hurdles at Kelso, Newcastle and Carlisle.
But, staying in Cumbria – but going up to an extended to miles and three furlongs – for his handicap debut 29 days ago, Danny McMenamin’s mount took a big step forward.
Held up at the back of the field, my selection made his ground approaching the second-last flight and produced a storming finish to beat Imperial Alex by a short head.
The handicapper couldn’t get carried away and Coniston Clouds competes from a rating of 98 after a 3lb rise in the weights.
A new trip – this time an extended two and three-quarter miles – looks ideal, and the grey is taken to win again.
At Kempton, WILDFELL has plenty going for him in the Unibet Support Safe Gambling Handicap (6.00).
The Peter Chapple-Hyam trainee marked his stable debut with a first career success at Lingfield at the end of last month and has plenty more to offer as he bids to deal with a 7lb rise.
