Horse racing tips: Today’s best bets for Newbury and Doncaster

Today’s Free Racing Tips

  • Boston Savr (14.00, Newbury) – 0.5pts each-way @ 14/1 bet365
  • Talk To The Man (15.35, Newbury) – 1pt win @ 5/4 BetMGM
  • Pure Carbon (16.08, Newbury) – 1pt win @ 5/2 bet365
  • Light Fandango (15.22, Doncaster) – 1pt win @ 16/1 bet365

It’s an interesting Friday of racing and our horse racing correspondent Jonathan Doidge has run the rule over the best bets on cards at Newbury and Doncaster.

West Berkshire Mencap Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle (Newbury, 14.00)

Dipping our toe in ever so gently with this first selection, this is a double-figure field where there aren’t many obvious look potential big improvers within it. Admittedly, some horses turn up in good form but the evidence of their performances of late suggests that none of them looks any better than fairly treated.

One exception to that could be the O’Neill-trained BOSTON SAVR. He gets in for his handicap debut off a very workable mark of just 98. He’s also got a further 3lb taken off his back by conditional jockey Ben Macey.

He’s shown nothing special and has gone off at a couple of big prices in his qualifying runs, all at around two miles. Now he has a mark, we may begin to see him get more competitive, especially as he now goes up in trip.

A quick glance at his pedigree suggests that the extra half mile will be to his advantage and I’d suggest a small each-way interest on betting sites.

Boston Savr – 0.5pts each-way @ 14/1 bet365

BetVictor Watch Weekend Winners "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle (Newbury, 15.35)

This is made interesting by the fact that the Paul Nolan-trained Irish-raider The Big Clubman makes the journey across and connections clearly feel they have a good opportunity for the six-year-old, who has already finished second in a Navan Grade 3 last November.

However, since then he was a blowout when made favourite on being upped to 2m7f for a Limerick Grade 2 last Boxing Day. He’ll try to atone for that disappointment dropping back in trip this time but he faces stiff opposition from TALK TO THE MAN.

Paul Nicholls trains the six-year-old gelded son of Walk In The Park, who has been patiently handled since joining the yard after winning an Irish point on debut. He showed promise in bumpers before winning readily on his hurdles debut at Taunton (2m3f, heavy) earlier this month.

He looked potentially useful there, winning by more than five lengths and he may be on the bigger upward curve. He looks worth an interest on horse racing betting sites.

Tip 2: Talk To The Man – 1pt win @ 5/4 BetMGM

Highclere Horse Feeds Oataalin Handicap Chase (Newbury, 16.08)

Daytime Dreaming is the ante-post favourite on betting apps for this on the back of a wide margin Southwell win last time. He’s up 8lb for that at this more challenging track, in terms of jumping the fences and he may be worth taking on. The third that day has since done nothing for the form, for example.

I liked the look of the win at Musselburgh by PURE CARBON, who showed he can dig deep when it’s required and he is still improving. The handicapper couldn’t put him up lots for that success and I think 4lb is fair. He acts on good to soft and he is taken to raise the bar again and may prove to be better value than the favourite.

Tip 3: Pure Carbon – 1pt win @ 5/2 bet365

Virgin Bet Handicap Hurdle (Doncaster, 15.22)

A number of exposed runners are involved in this contest over an extended two miles and one who may still have better to come is LIGHT FANDANGO. Neil Mulholland’s seven-year-old won a Class 4 event over C&D on his penultimate start last December (good).

That was his best effort by some margin, being dropped in trip as was the case, so it was disappointing that he couldn’t produce better when back up to 2m4f at Wincanton last time. He failed to settle that day and softer ground may also have been an issue although he has won on soft earlier in his career.

It’s forecast not to be as testing here and back again in trip, he should settle better and if so, he looks potentially well treated based on that previous win at the track.

Tip 4: Light Fandango – 1pt win @ 16/1 bet365

Please gamble responsibly

It’s vital that bettors take steps to remain in control of their time and budget when using gambling sites. The same applies whether you’re using the betting sites UK, slot sites, casino sites, casino apps, or any other gambling medium.

Even the most knowledgeable racing punter can lose a bet, so always stick to a budget and never chase your losses.

It’s particularly important not to get carried away by any free bets or casino bonuses you might receive, both of which are available in abundance on gambling sites, but must be approached with caution.

You can stay in control by making use of the responsible gambling tools offered, such as deposit limits, loss limits, self-exclusion and time-outs.
