Nine people are in hospital following a horror, multi-vehicle traffic crash and a separate motorcycle accident on the Pacific Motorway at Coomera this morning.
Initial reports indicate in the first accident, a truck rolled and multiple cars collided near exit 54 just after 5:30am.
Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman told ABC Gold Coast a vehicle travelling north crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with other cars.
Seven people were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, three in a serious condition, and four others in a stable condition.
Queensland Ambulance Service's Sam Thwaites said the seven people were lucky to be alive.
"There was extensive force and damage to all vehicles," he said.
All southbound lanes have been closed, and police are urging people to take alternative routes.
Acting Chief Superintendent Wildman is urging commuters to stay off the road, with hours-long delays expected throughout the morning.
"For those who don't need to travel to the Gold Coast immediately, I'd deter your travel,' he said.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
In a separate incident, two men are in hospital following a motorcycle crash on the same stretch of road at Ormeau.
Police say around 7am, the pair crashed on the Pacific Motorway near exit 41 southbound, sustaining leg injuries.
One of the men has been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, the other has been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
Queensland police say the spate of incidents on the same stretch will cause even further delays.
