Doctors have revealed the shocking extent of injuries suffered by a Ukrainian refugee child after she was viciously attacked by a monkey.
Two-year-old Paulina was ravaged by the primate after it escaped from a private zoo owned by a millionaire.
The toddler suffered "severe" lacerated wounds on her heels and deep scratches on her legs after the monkey pounced on her in a deeply distressing attack.
Officials confirmed Paulina will survive the horror attack after reportedly lost a large amount of blood and was left fighting for her life in intensive care.
Surgeons carried out surgery on the tot who has since been moved to a regular ward.
Ksenia Mishonova, regional children's rights ombudsman, said: "The little girl is on the mend.
“She and her mother have already been transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular ward."
Pictures show bloodstained bandages on one of Paulina's hands after her fingers were fractured and her tendons were torn by the monkey's teeth.
She was also left with horrific wounds on her legs and feet following the attack which unravelled after the family fled from Ukraine's war-torn Lukansk region.
Mishonova, who visited the child, added: “The doctors are confident that everything will be fine.
“Her fingers and toes are injured. The tendons were torn by the teeth of a wild animal. But now the worst is over.
“The toes have recovered their mobility after the operation."
She vowed: “The guilty will be punished."
The monkey attacked Paulina who was on a stepladder close to a garden swimming pool, near Moscow in Russia..
It kept attacking even as the girl’s distraught mum and dad sought to rescue her from the animal.
The youngster had come to Moscow region to escape the bloody conflict in eastern Ukraine. Earlier there were reports that she was fighting for her life after the violent attack.
A criminal case has been opened into how the monkey escaped from the private zoo of a neighbouring house in Terpigorievo village, owned by millionaire Russian lawyer Leonid Rosenblum, 58.
The zoo was linked in media reports to his wife Nadezhda, 47.
Local officials are being investigated for failing to ensure the ‘pet zoo’ was properly secure.
They did not properly inspect the property, it is claimed.
A report said the Rosenblums keep wolves and elephants at their elite property. It then attacked Paulina who was on a stepladder close to a garden swimming pool.
Other children are seen running away, leaving the money to attack the small girl.
