Two white dogs were "red with blood" after a woman was reportedly "savaged" in a sickening attack.
Dad Kevin Cannon said he witnessed first hand the frenzied attack which was "one of those things you only ever read about or see on the TV". Mr Cannon, 60, told the ECHO he was driving home from the garage at around 1am today, Thursday, April 20 when he saw two women on Ismay Street, Walton.
The dad claimed there had been an altercation and the two dogs, believed to be Staffordshire bull terriers, had attacked one of the women. Speaking to the ECHO shortly after 9am, Mr Cannon said: "I saw the two women in the street and I think there had been a fight. One of the women was covered in blood and the other woman was screaming 'help her'.

"The dogs were savaging the woman. I have never witnessed anything like it. One of them had her leggings in its mouth and the other had ripped off her top.
"There was blood everywhere and she had injuries to her face and neck. She was in a really bad way. The dogs were in a frenzy. They were white Staffies but were red with blood."
Mr Cannon, who called the emergency services, said he honked his car to try and scare the dogs away from the woman. He added one of the dogs came running over to him and he got back into his car.
The dad told the ECHO: "When I saw it running over I was shaking. My instant reaction was to help but I saw the dogs were in a frenzy. I'm a single parent - if I got injured and had to go to hospital my daughter would be on her own.
"I'm an animal lover and know the staffies' instincts are to protect."
A cordon remains on Ismay Street this morning. Photos taken by the ECHO this morning show a number of evidence markers on the street. Slippers and ripped clothing are strewn across the pavement where the incident happened.
Residents on the street told an ECHO reporter they had seen armed police in the area following the incident. They claimed there were "four ambulance vehicles" as well.
The suspected dog attack sparked a huge police response. Mr Cannon said "after the first car came they kept coming". He added: "I think there were around 12 police vehicles including Matrix vans and police dog units.
"When the police came they rammed one of the dogs with their car and the other dog ran away in the direction of City Road. The police helicopter was up looking for the other dog.
"It's one of those things you read about or see on TV. To see it was surreal. It's sickening to have seen it. It was horrendous."
The ECHO has approached Merseyside Police for comment in relation to the ongoing scene.
