13-year-old boy shot in his head, critically wounded in South Shore

A shell casing was found in a gangway near where a boy was critically wounded in a shooting Thursday afternoon in South Shore, police said.

A teen was shot and badly wounded in South Shore Thursday afternoon, according to Chicago police.

The boy, 13, was found in a gangway in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue at 2:50 p.m. and had been shot in his head, police said. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Multiple witnesses heard two shots and saw surveillance footage of two males running past his house around the time of the shooting, police said.

A shell casing was found in a gangway near where the boy was found, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

A car theft was happening around the same time and in the same area of the shooting, according to police reports.

No one is in custody.
