Work is set to start on a new residential scheme on the edge of Liverpool city centre later this year, according to its developers.
In April, planning permission was approved to build 310 apartments on derelict land between Blackstock Street and Paul Street in Kirkdale . Cheshire based Sourced Development Group will be leading on the scheme.
The developers said the scheme will bring regeneration and economic benefits to the Bevington Bush area. It will also form a new ‘gateway’ for Liverpool city centre.

A previous version of the scheme was set for approval in February, subject to the signing of a section 106 agreement - money paid by the developer to which goes towards infrastructure projects in the area near to the site. The plans were for close to 400 apartments that would comprise of 180 studios, 166 one bed units and 46 two bed units.
However the scheme was withdrawn from its planning committee meeting with council officers citing concerns over whether the development was in line with the Local Plan. The Local Plan - a document that includes policies that set out the key considerations for making decisions on development proposals in the city - had been used as a planning guidance document for the last year but was formally introduced when signed off by full council in January.
Following amendments and subsequent approval the revised scheme will now feature 146 one bed units and 156 two bed units. It is stated the applicant has not sought to further reduce the amount payable under the S106 obligations due to the reduction in the amount of available units. This will remain at £740,000, which was reduced from £1,146,971.70 following a viability report.
The development, which stretches across four nine storey buildings, aims to create 200 new jobs and deliver a long term use to a previously derelict site. The site is situated within the Bevington Bush area of the city, near to parts of LJMU’s campus and the new Merseyside Police headquarters.
A number of schemes within the local area have stalled in recent years and remain incomplete. The Metalworks scheme , which was first unveiled several years ago, promised 300 new apartments on the site of the former Lawtons building off Leeds Street .
A spokesperson for Sourced Development Group said “following the success of Derby Court which completed in April 2022 we are delighted to bring Grosvenor Square to life and construction on our third Liverpool City Centre scheme will start shortly, further cementing our commitment to the provision of quality homes to the City region.”
