Queensland police have charged a 36-year-old Victorian man with murder after the body of a 62-year-old man was found in the backyard of an Ashmore home on the Gold Coast yesterday.
Officers responded to a welfare check at a home at Lillian Crescent shortly before 9am on Sunday and found the man's body in the backyard.
The property was declared a crime scene and specialist officers conducted examinations.
Superintendent Brendan Smith said "the man had significant injuries, he was already deceased".
Police arrested the 36-year-old man on Sunday afternoon when he was located with a vehicle of interest along Southport Nerang Road at Molendinar just before 1pm.
"He was quite distinctive when he was located around lunchtime [Sunday] as he wasn't wearing any pants," Inspector Smith said.
The man was charged with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
The dead man was last seen about 7:30pm on Saturday at a bowls club at Southport.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen him there or later in the evening to contact them.
Police are also appealing for anyone with information or CCTV vision of a white 2005 Toyota Hilux seen between 6.30pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday.
