Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Roberts has posted an update on his two-day ‘mercy dash’ to take supplies to the Ukraine border to help with the relief effort.

The television star was preparing for to drive across Germany and Poland as he tweeted a video on his progress across Europe on a gruelling journey behind the wheel for 26 hours.

Roberts, 58, last week announced that he was filling a car full of supplies, including nappies and other baby products, to help families fleeing Ukraine as Russian forces advance.

He had said he felt impelled to do something to help as he watched families struggling to escape the war torn country.

In the short clip on Sunday he asked for song choices to get him through the gruelling drive and said he was fuelled on 2wine gums and lots of Red Bull”.

He added that he felt he had a “massive responsibility” to deliver the supplies to the Ukraine/Poland border.

He crossing the Channel by Ferry and after a short break in the Netherlands on Sunday morning, he said: “I’ve managed a few hours sleep and yeah, it’s a really tough day today, it’s another 13 hours on the road.”

Detailing the journey he said: “Took the ferry from Dover to Calais and onwards through France, Belgium and The Netherlands…heading for Germany.

“But I’m so tired I think I’ll have to overnight in a hotel and continue onwards to Poland early am.”

His fans tweeted encouragement but expressed concerns over his safety.

@mdbboyd wrote: ‘Drive carefully Martin. If you need a rest then stop and take one. It’s more important that the aid arrives than when it arrives.’

@Starlet03 wrote: ‘This is a wonderful act of kindness Martin. Safe travels. Xx’

Before his journey the presenter filmed himself stocking up with essential items to take on the journey.

In an appeal to others he said: “So whatever small step you can take to do your bit, just do it. Because even a couple of bottles of these (Calpol for children) might help.

“So do that for me alright. Not for me obviously. Do it for them. Because this is actually, if you think about it, going hopefully into the mouth of a child that needs it.

“A homeless child who’s now wondering what the hell’s going on in some refugee camp somewhere.”
