Homes Under the Hammer host Martin Roberts broke down in tears as he announced the death of his father. The TV star took to Twitter early Thursday morning (March 9) to share the sad news in a heart-wrenching video.
Appearing in the video, the 59-year-old looked tired and visibly distraught, as he admitted he wasn't sure if he should be posting the video as it was such a personal matter. "But I guess people deal with things in different ways," he said.
Martin then went on to say: "This is a very private thing but I kind of just need to surround myself with as many people who care right now...so I consider you my friends." He struggled to contain his cries as he continued: "My dad died yesterday, he was 90 and he had a great life and erm...he died peacefully, he died at home and he wasn't in pain so that's great.
"But it doesn't...well it does help but it doesn't help right now." He then tried to compose himself before continuing to say: "The loss of a parent is something we all have to deal with, and there's much worse losses I know - the loss of a child and stuff like that - but right now I feel really alone and horrible.
"So any words you've got would be appreciated." He then took a few deep breaths before adding: "Thank you for being there anyway." The post was quickly flooded with support from Martin's followers.
@Wildlifehunter said: "So sorry to hear of your loss Martin. It does not matter how old we are, losing a much loved parent is difficult to deal with. My father died 17 years ago and I miss him every single day. Sending hugs." @BenHarrison147 replied: "So sorry to hear this Martin, you are never alone."
@ukbrainstorm commented: "Oh Martin. Sending you the biggest of hugs and my heartfelt condolences. I wish I had other words, but just letting you know you’re not alone." @PaulMeagher20 shared: "All the best Martin you’re a great guy and I’ll bet he was very proud of you. Sincere condolences to you and all your family at this time."
Last year, Martin suffered his own terrifying health scare. Back in April, the presenter told how he was rushed to hospital and said he had to undergo emergency surgery. Martin said that after feeling unwell things suddenly took a turn for the worse and upon going to hospital, a 'massive amount of fluid' was discovered around his heart and said it was a case of life-or-death as he had "hours to live".
Luckily, Martin was discharged a week later and was back filming for Homes under the Hammer the following month. Speaking to The Sun at the time, the BBC star shared how surgeons brought him back from the brink of death and forced him to change his life. He said: “I feel so very lucky to be here. I could have died but I’m here. I’ll never be the same person again. I like being on the go, I’ve been presenting Homes Under The Hammer for 19 years and I’m determined to make it to 20, next May."
