Homes Under The Hammer rat-infested house unrecognisable after stunning transformation

A home infested with rats that sold on BBC One's Homes Under The Hammer for £43,000 has been utterly transformed by its new owner who gave it some much-needed TLC.

As reported by the Mirror, the "incredibly filthy" pad in Stoke-on-Trent was in such a dire state that show presenter Dion Dublin warned his audience that whoever took it on had their work cut out.

Dion, 52, couldn't even get into the house when viewing it beforehand due to issues, as he said: "When you take on a property like this, in this condition, the first thing you’re going to have to think about is skips and how many you’re going to need.

"It all needs to go before you see what you’ve got to work with.

“Now, I’m not going to be going in there because there’s sewage, it’s incredibly filthy and there’s signs of a rat infestation as well.

"Neither me nor the film crew will be going in there because it’s a huge health and safety hazard.”

The trash palace was no match for HGV driver and breakdancer Yan, who told Dion that doing up houses like this had become a "hobby".

He said: "It’s like a hobby for me. I did houses with friends before, so I’m looking to do it in my free time. When I saw it, I was thinking that’s the right project for me.

“[Before the renovation] there [was] nothing in there. No plumbing, no electricity, so everything needed to be done. At least I don’t have any trash in the house.”

Thanks to Yan's work, the once wild garden strewn with debris was completely transformed into a cement-covered pathway with gravel either side.

There was also new fencing put around the property, new walls, and smart new windows to replace the ones that had previously been boarded up.

The interior didn't disappoint the eye either..

A bright open-plan kitchen boasts a number of original features and was sure to "entice people through the door" - according to Dion.

Yan, who did up the home with his wife and local tradespeople said he had considered living in the home himself, but decided to rent it out to a family instead.

He wasn't keen on the £650 to £700-a-month rent valuation given by property experts, as he had already secured a £800-a-month tenant.

You can watch Homes Under The Hammer on BBC One at 11:15am every weekday.
