Homeowner 'tied up and threatened with knife' as house ransacked in Meath burglary

A homeowner in Meath was tied up and threatened with a knife as his house was ransacked on Monday.

The burglary happened at around 1pm in the Killnagalliagh, Hill of Down area.

Two men entered the house and were confronted by the homeowner, a man aged in his 60's.

One of the burglars was carrying a knife and threatened the homeowner, who was subsequently tied up and "received a number of injuries".

Jewellery and a sum of cash were stolen during the incident.

The men left after ransacking the house and the homeowner was able to free himself and call for help.

He was taken to Mullingar General Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening.

No arrests have been made and officers are asking for anyone who may have information to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Hill of Down and Kinnegad areas between 10:30am – 3:30pm on Monday, 16th May 2022, and who may have witnessed anything.

"Anyone with camera footage from the area at this time (including dash-cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

"Gardaí can be contacted at Trim Garda station on 046 948 1540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
