'Homeless' woman bought dilapidated house for £1 and transforms in into tranquil paradise

A 'homeless' woman, who bought a home for £1, has created a tranquil paradise she is proud to call home. Back in 2015 Maxine Sharples was a postgraduate and bought the property through the Homes for Pound Scheme.

The £1 scheme, set up by Liverpool's city council, garnered national attention and was the focus of a Channel 4 documentary in 2018.. It gave people the opportunity to get onto the property ladder by purchasing run-down, dilapidated properties and renovating them.

After buying the house for a quid, Maxine used her own money and resources to bring it back to life as part of an agreement with the city council. The scheme started with a trial in the Granby area of Liverpool 8 where 10 properties were restored, the Liverpool Echo reports.
