Homeless dogs get married in miniature chapel with cake, bubbles and music

Dogs often form special bonds when they're abandoned in rescue centres together - but one adorable duo have built more than a friendship.

Peanut and Cashew have tied the knot to mark their blossoming relationship, after they fell in love 'at first sight' in a no-kill shelter.

Nine-year-old Peanut and three-year-old Cashew got married at the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) earlier this month.

Despite their big age gap, the perfect pair are loved-up and thriving as husband and wife.

Both chihuahuas were surrendered to SAHS in April and met in the medical building, where they formed an instant bond.

After watching their relationship blossom, staff decided to organise the ceremony in the hopes of finding Peanut and Cashew their "forever honeymoon home".

Lucia Almanza, from SAHS in Bexar County, Texas, said: "The ceremony was to celebrate their love and recovery journey.

"Their small, intimate wedding day was shared with staff, volunteers and our closest friends.

"The event included a beautiful walk down the aisle, bubbles, music and cake, of course!”

A miniature wedding chapel was also specially built for the occasion, painted red and decorated with colourful decorations.

The chihuahuas were dressed to the nines for the big day with a white dress, matching veil and a smart black tie suit.

To tie the knot, they walked up a red carpet flanked with dog-shaped hedges.

Lucia added: "A couple of days before we had some volunteers who constructed Peanut and Cashew their very own chapel in their own time, complete with a bubble machine for added fun for the dogs."

Lucia explained that Peanut and Chestnut are both available individually for adoption at the SAHS, but staff are hoping they get to continue their honeymoon together forever.

The San Antonio Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill organisation in Texas that was founded in 1952.

Every year SAHS shelters, medically treats and rehabilitates thousands of dogs and cats who remain in their care until adopted.
