The Home Secretary has failed to back her claims that migrants 'possess values at odds with our country' with figures in a debate in the Commons. Suella Braverman failed to offer statistics as evidence to back her claim that those who are crossing the English Channel are linked to “heightened levels of criminality”.
The debate signifies the final Commons hurdle of the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill. When Ms Braverman was asked whether she had figures to support that statement, she said it was based on information gathered from police chiefs.
Senior backbench Tories, including former prime minister Theresa May and former Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith, today (Wednesday) voiced concerns in Parliament about the impact the Government’s flagship immigration reforms could have on modern slavery protections.
