Hollywood star gives brilliant response to Nottingham Forest question

Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has said that he will "check out" Nottingham Forest after they were recommended to him during an interview.

The subject of English football was brought up during a chat with comedian and Forest fan Matt Forde on Absolute Radio. After admitting that he hadn't followed football before, Cage asked for recommendations for any teams to follow as he looks to up his interest in football.

“I’m sorry to tell you I haven’t (followed football), I’m too boring,” he said. “I’m just into my movies. I should probably take a break from that and get into some football. Do you recommend any teams?”

It was an opportunity Forde couldn’t pass up, as he recommended Forest to the Hollywood A-lister. “Yes, we recommend a team called Nottingham Forest who you may have heard of,” he replied. “They used to be very good, we won the European Cup twice and we’re on the verge of promotion back to the Premier League.”

That prompted a reply from Cage that suggests that Forest could have a new fan. “Congratulations, that’s a wonderful name to live up to, so yeah, I’ll check them out,” he said.

Forest’s season has turned on its head since the appointment of Steve Cooper back in September. The Reds were in the relegation zone when the Welshman took over, but have climbed the table to have a realistic shot of promotion at the end of the season.

In the interview with Cage, Forde went on to ask if he would be up for playing the role of manager Steve Cooper in a film of Forest’s season. “Well, I can’t answer that as I don’t know anything about Mr Cooper but I mean, I’m open to anything if it’s a good script for sure,” he answered.
