Actor Susan Sarandon and Emmy-winning comedian Hannah Einbinder were detained by the NYPD outside the United Nations General Assembly in New York City Thursday at a protest that drew several hundred people.
The anti-war demonstration, organized by the group Jewish Voice for Peace, took place ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to demand his arrest and protest U.S. military aid.
Footage from the scene showed Sarandon being led away in handcuffs while wearing a shirt reading "Fund people not bombs," and Einbinder shouting slogans demanding Palestine's freedom as officers escorted her away.
Other notable public figures in attendance at the large protest included Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, whistleblower Chelsea Manning, and comedian Caleb Heron.
Both Sarandon and Einbinder have previously spoken publicly about their activism, with Sarandon noting that her vocal support for Palestine previously resulted in her being dropped by her talent agency.
