Holly Willoughby has detailed the behind the scenes chaos after contestant Connor Ball suffered an injury moments before the live show on ITV over the weekend.
The Vamps bass guitarist Connor, 25, cut his chin before the ITV show was about to air yesterday and was then seen bleeding following his performance to the Take That song 'Out of Our Heads'.
During Monday’s This Morning show, host Holly Willoughby detailed the panic on the ITV skating competition as Connor had been due to open the show.
Happy Mondays star and fellow contestant Bez, 57, brought up the incident while chatting over his own accident-prone skating during an appearance on the ITV daytime show.
He said: “I’ve got a big massive bruise on my bum at the moment. I’ve got a twisted knee and just generally aches and pains.
“I don’t get fear because I’ve got every pad under the sun and I’m getting really good at falling now on the ice.”
He added: “Accidents can happen. You see what happened to Connor last night and he’s a really proficient skater. I thought he did the best yesterday. He’s up there challenging others.”
Holly replied detailing that Connor had a fall while practicing his spinning before the live show.
She added: “He had to have six stitches in his chin just before. He was meant to be opening the show.
“We suddenly had to change the whole running order and then he came on and they obviously opened up again. It’s dangerous.”
Co-host Alison, who was stepping in for Phillip after he tested positive for Covid-19, said: “It is a dangerous sport isn’t it.”
Bez replied saying that Connor is now “up there” with Regan Gascoigne and Brendan Cole in the competition.
He said: “He’s come on so much last night and obviously Kimberley is so beautiful on the ice.”
Holly replied: “It’s so close. Any other year any one of them would have walked it.”
Stephen Mulhern, who stepped in to cover for Phillip during his Covid-19 isolation, said while hosting the live show with Holly: “I don’t know if you can see this but Dancing On Ice is completely live and Connor was meant to open the entire show, but had an accident before the show.
“He had stitches before the show so he couldn’t go on first and they have now opened up. It's dripping on the ice. We'll get it seen to.”
While dabbing his bleeding chin, Connor explained he accidentally smacked his face on the ice just beforehand.
The judges praised him for coming out and still performing despite his injury, awarding him an impressive score of 33 out of 40.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
