Holly Willoughby flooded with support from fans amid poignant viral message

Holly Willoughby has been flooded with support in the past couple of days after she faced an intense backlash following false accusations that she and Phillip Schofield had jumped the queue to see the Queen lying in state.

The This Morning duo have faced a public petition calling for them to be sacked as presenters of This Morning and have been trolled mercilessly since the footage showed them being taken through to Westminster Hall, as thousands waited for hours in the queue outside.

Holly and Phil have insisted that they were there for work and ITV have backed their presenters with a statement confirming the reasons why they were there.

A photo of Holly, 41, with Caroline Flack, who took her own life aged 40 in 2020, has gone viral on social media, as many urged others to "be kind" in respect to the abuse that she has been receiving over the past week.

'Queuegate' has seen the popularity of Phillip, 60, dip a little, with car sales business We Buy Any Car dropping his photo from their website and media.

Meanwhile, Holly is now on the rise again as a wave of support for the popular TV star begins to drown out the haters, who have attacked her online.

Holly has gained over 35,000 new followers on Instagram in the past few weeks, while her Twitter following has been bolstered by over 50,000.

After the furore surrounding the alleged queue jumping, ITV released a statement to try and bring to and end the speculation.

The broadcaster wrote: "Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something.

"We asked Phillip and Holly to be a part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.

"They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.”

On Tuesday's This Morning, Holly looked to clarify what happened in a VT.

She said: "Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists we were given official permission to access the hall.

"It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven’t been able to visit Westminster in person.

"The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast those paying respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause.

"None of the broadcasters and journalists took anyone's places in the queue and no one filed past the Queen.

"We of course respected those rules however we realised that it may have looked like something else and therefore we totally understand the reaction.

"Please know that we would never jump a queue."
