Holly Willoughby flooded with support after she reveals sad death in her family

Television presenter Holly Willoughby has been flooded with messages of support, after she went public with the notice of a bereavement in her family recently.

The ITV star paid tribute to her mother-in-law, Sandra, who she shared a very close relationship with, as she told followers that she had passed away recently, reports the Mirror.

The This Morning star wrote: "Sleep well Sandra… Nonna, Mother, Sister, friend… To know her was to know strength itself… Raising four children after losing her husband, she then lost a son and more recently her sister… Thank you for your guidance, advice and bottomless Prosecco.

"Thank you for raising the incredible man I’m married to… I see your strength everyday in our children… Be at peace…Love you."

The star, who has endured quite the turbulent year so far, posted a throwback of the pair of them on holiday, as Sandra grinned in a photo with her daughter-in-law.

Famous faces were quick to share their support for Holly on her Instagram post, as This Morning co-star Vanessa Feltz wrote: "I am so terribly sorry to hear of Sandra’s passing. I had such a memorable conversation with her. She exuded wisdom kindness and warmth. Sending love to you Dan and the whole family."

Fellow broadcaster Kate Thornton said: "Beautiful words for a truly beautiful and remarkable woman. I’m so sorry she’s no longer with you. Sending my heartfelt condolences x."

All Saints star Nicola Appleton added: "Ahh darling sending you all soo much love. Sandra was just wonderful!" followed by a broken heart emoji.

Adoring fans also sent messages of condolences and support following the news, as one wrote: "So sorry to read this. RIP Sandra xxx."

Another said: "'I'm so sorry to hear this. Thinking of you all. Sending hugs xxx."

A third wrote, "So sorry to hear this Holly. Sending love to you, Dan and all sides of your family" followed by a heart emoji.

And a fourth added: "My heart aches for you and your children's. Nona peace be with you."

The family bereavement is the latest in a long list of tragic times for Holly, following weeks of uncertainty and turmoil after Phillip Schofield stepped down from This Morning.

Holly's long-time costar stepped down from the ITV show, and parted ways with the broadcaster altogether after he admitted having an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger male colleague while he was married.

It followed weeks of allegations that his once close relationship with former best friend Holly had soured.

Following the news of Phillip's affair, Holly said she had been let down by him, while Phil later noted that she had not replied to his apology texts.

Since the scandal broke, Holly has since gone on to present This Morning with co-stars Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary and Craig Doyle.

A permanent replacement for Phillip has yet to be announced.
