Holly Willoughby defended by fans as she breaks down in tears on ITV This Morning after hearing of Ukrainian boy being forced to travel 600 miles alone

The news in the last few weeks has been leaving everyone feeling more emotional than usual.

And now Holly Willoughby has been defended by fans after she showed her emotions over the heartbreaking Ukraine crisis on This Morning.

The 41-year-old was back on the popular ITV daytime show alongside her co-host Phillip Schofield and once again they presided over their daily 'This Morning's View' segment.

The presenting duo were joined in the studio by former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp and LBC's Julia Hartley-Brewer joined them via video link as they discussed the chaos of refugees fleeing the Ukraine.

They also spoke about an 11-year-old Ukrainian refugee, who hasn't been named, who was forced to travel 600 miles alone to the Slovakian border.

A picture of the young boy appeared on screen as Phillip, 59, told his story and that he travelled almost the entire width of the country with just a plastic bag and a passport with a phone number written on his hand.

While he has been reunited with family now, his parents had to stay in Ukraine and the number allowed someone to contact relatives to collect him and take him to safety.

As Phillip was explaining the youngster's situation, Nicola was seen wiping a tear from her eye. "I don't want to live in a world where this is the best option for children," she said. "Also, children shouldn't be waiting, especially on there own, at these borders. There are human traffickers operating now."

Tears were in Nicola's eyes as she spoke before Phillip asked Julia for her view and as the camera eventually returned to show the hosts, a teary-eyed Phillip said: "Let's leave it there," before thanking their guests.

Meanwhile, Holly could be seen slightly slumped in her seat wiping tears from her eyes with her co-host having to send the programme to a break.

Just before the titles rolled, mum-of-three Holly sighed as she used a tissue to wipe her reddening face as Phillip looked to her in comfort.

A few minutes later the hosts were back on air and getting ready to speak to Martin Lewis for his latest money-saving advice but This Morning viewers could still see Holly struggling with her emotions as tears continued to fill up her eyes.

While some criticised Holly for her tears, others were quick to jump to her defence and share her feelings towards the horrors unfolding.

@W1966Caroline tweeted: "There are some very hard hearted uncaring people on here, I absolutely can understand Holly crying, just as I do at every news report. Remember we could be in a difficult situation one day, who knows which way this war will go Putin has nothing to loose now #ThisMorning."

Holly was also emotional on Monday's show (ITV)

"Holly is a mother, she has a very good heart. A lot of you bringing up the fact she has money so she should house Ukrainians ffs grow up.. she has feelings whether you're a fan or not, you're still watching #ThisMorning though aren't you," @Janinesimps87 shared.

@MummyGoodall commented: "Can someone PLEASE give Holly a hug #ThisMorning."

"I take the p**s out of Phill + Holly all the time but i do genuinely believe that the stories they have to report on plays on there minds. They get a lot of stick for showing emotions. #ThisMorning," @hayleydavies121 added.
