Holly Willoughby apologises to Phillip Schofield after on-air This Morning row over horse drama at Ascot

Holly Willoughby found herself having to apologise to Phillip Schofield after the pair got into an on-air disagreement over what happened during a joint trip to Ascot on This Morning. The pair were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Wednesday (December 28) following the show's brief Christmas break from air.

However, while some said they were 'very surprised' to see the pair back on-screen after they said their goodbyes to viewers for 2022 earlier this month, others were quick to point out that the show had been pre-recorded.

Last month when This Morning was off air due to coverage of the World Cup in Qatar, Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, still headed to the show's ITV studio as normal and recorded episodes for the 'Twixmas' period. They recorded some new content for viewers to watch before the live show returns as normal in the new year.

But during the latest episode, viewers were also reminded of some moments from the show from throughout the year, such as when Phillip and Alison Hammond enjoyed a chat and sing-song with festive fave Michael Buble.

And Holly and Phollip also appeared to get in a bit of a spat - albeit not a serious one. The pair had been discussing horses when Phillip insisted that Holly 'threw him under a horse' at Ascot. But the mum-of-three was very adamant that she 'didn't push' her co-star and friend.

"You threw me under one!' asserted Phil, to which Holly insisted: "Not quite." Phillip responded: "Not far off"' while Holly decided to recall the incident, saying: "Where were we? We were at Ascot, and then this horse reared up. It was instinctive that I ducked behind you - I didn't throw you!"

The pair had different versions of the same story (ITV)

"You grabbed me and pushed me towards the horse," Phillip argued back as Holly maintained her innocence by saying: "I didn't push you!" But still having none of it, Phillip declared: "Yes you did!" Holly began to giggle and told her on-screen partner: "I hid behind you."

Still not letting it go, Phillip replied: "You pushed me under the hooves of the horse," and it appears he finally pushed Holly enough for her to finally apologise as she conceded: "Well, I'm sorry," to which a smirking Phillip then admitted it wasn't 'that bad', adding: "I might have exaggerated a wee bit... not much though!"
