Holly Shand is back with another round of FPL tips – this week focusing on the best Bruno Fernandes replacements for Gameweek 19.
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was bought by almost 100,000 managers ahead of the trip to Wolves on Boxing Day, but got himself sent off and now misses Gameweek 19 through suspension. So who are the best replacements for the Manchester United captain?
Best Bruno Fernandes Replacements For Gameweek 19
Anthony Gordon vs Manchester United (A)
My top target plays against Fernandes’ Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Monday evening. Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon is the most bought midfielder going into FPL Gameweek 19, with two goals and two assists from his last four Premier League starts.
The Magpies come into this game in a rich vein of form, scoring 13 goals in their last four league games. Alexander Isak is now the third most owned player in the game, and so adding a second attacker to your ranks becomes a way of having differential ownership of this potent attack.
Gordon has had ten shots on goal and made 10 key passes in the last four gameweeks. Manchester United’s defensive troubles continue, with nine goals conceded in their last four games and three losses in that time, plus Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte suspended for this game.
Luis Diaz vs West Ham (A)
Liverpool’s attack remains ripe for investment, with 14 goals scored in the last four gameweeks alone, including a brace for Luis Diaz in the 6-3 demolition of Spurs last weekend.
Diaz was rested for the 3-1 defeat of Leicester City on Boxing Day. This rest means he’s likely to be back in the starting eleven for the trip to West Ham, with Diaz notching an assist in this fixture last season.
Diaz has so much potential, with four big chances on goal in the last four gameweeks, often leading the line as Liverpool’s number nine.
West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski sustained a head injury in their win against Southampton in midweek and so Alphonse Areola looks set to deputise between the sticks. He’s conceded 14 goals in eight starts this season, keeping just one clean sheet.
James Maddison vs Wolves (H)
Another player who saw themselves benched on Boxing Day was Spurs playmaker James Maddison and the quick turnaround between deadlines bodes well for his minutes when Wolves visit them on Sunday, with the home advantage a crucial factor.
Spurs rank second for both goals scored (39) and home goals scored (23) this season, scoring 3+ goals in half of their games. Maddison has been their best fantasy asset by some margin, with 13 goal involvements for the campaign: eight goals and five assists.
Their opponents Wolves have been among the worst defences in the league this season, conceding 40 goals and keeping just three clean sheets. However, they have improved under Vitor Pereira, with clean sheets in consecutive games against Leicester City and Manchester United.
