Holiday hotspots that still have Covid entry rules including Spain, the US and Thailand

France, Spain, Thailand and the USA are amongst some of the countries still enforcing some Covid entry rules for holidaymakers.

Although there are plenty of countries that have scrapped Covid travel rules such as Greece and Croatia, many others are still requiring the likes of PCR tests, antigen tests or proof of vaccination.

Certain Caribbean islands, Thailand, the US and the Philippines all have hoops which must be jumped through before entry is permitted.

Check the below list of holiday hotspots with coronavirus entry rules below...

Spain

Spain has eased its travel rules for people from EU countries, but not for those coming from the UK.

If you are vaccinated you need to show proof that you have had your jabs.

If you are unvaccinated you will need to show that you are negative through a PCR taken within 72 hours prior to departure, or an antigen test taken within 24 hours prior.

France

You can visit France without needing Covid tests if you can show proof of vaccination - this applies to any UK travellers aged 12 or over.

If you're not fully vaccinated, you can still visit France but you'll need to show proof of a negative PCR test result, taken within 72 hours or an antigen test result, taken within 48 hours pre-departure.

The USA

You'll need to be vaccinated if you want to visit the USA.

Otherwise, those who are unvaccinated can only visit if they have an exception, or if they are US Citizens, US Nationals, and US Lawful Permanent Residents

If you’re not fully vaccinated but have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last year you still cannot enter the USA unless you meet one of the exceptions detailed on the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and US Embassy websites.

As of the end of June, vaccinated travellers do not need to take a pre-departure test.

The Netherlands

Travellers from non-EU countries need to present a vaccination or recovery certificate to be permitted entry to the Netherlands.

Those who do not hold any of these two certificates are currently banned.

Caribbean islands

Getting a slice of island paradise is not easy at the best of times, and much harder during a pandemic.

Different Caribbean islands have different entry rules.

St Lucia, Antigua, the Bahamas, St Maarten and Barbados require a test for unvaccinated or partly-vaccinated travellers only.

Saint Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands all require a test of both vaccinated and unvaccinated UK arrivals.

The Cayman Islands requires both proof of vaccination and a test.

Unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated residents or nationals of Antigua and Barbuda will be let in if they meet certain requirements - non-nationals who have not had a WHO approved jab cannot enter the country however, regardless of their test status.

While fully vaccinated passengers are not required to present a negative Covid test when coming into Antigua and Barbuda, they may be required to submit to a PCR test upon arrival at their own expense if they are displaying symptoms.

Indonesia

If you arrive in Indonesia without being fully vaccinated you will need to take a PCR test.

Partially vaccinated or non-vaccinated travellers will be required to self-quarantine for five days, with a second PCR before release from isolation.

Thailand

The south Asian country has scrapped most of its rules regarding entry, including a colour coded system which ranked countries by Covid risk.

As of July 1, travellers need only show one Covid-related document to enter - either a Covid-19 vaccination certificate or a negative PCR or professionally administered antigen test.

India

As of February, there is no longer the requirement to test on arrival or to quarantine at home for seven days when entering India if you are jabbed.

If you are unvaccinated, you will need to upload negative Covid PCR results, with the test having been conducted 72 hours or less before the journey began.

Madagascar

All travellers to Madagascar need to follow pre-departure PCR test, antigen test on arrival, and any relevant quarantine requirements, regardless of vaccination status.

These include showing a negative PCR test result taken within 72hrs before departure, and an antigen test on arrival.

If your arrival antigen test result is positive, you will be required to quarantine for a further 7 days at a designated hotel at your own cost, and may be referred to a local medical facility for treatment if you develop serious symptoms.

The east Asian country still has very strict coronavirus rules.

You must take an approved test within 72 hours before your flight departure time, sign a written pledge that commits you to abiding by the quarantine and self-isolation rules and to a number of other requirements, and complete an online health questionnaire and obtain a QR code when you arrive.

Morocco

To enter Morocco you must have had three vaccine doses or proof of a negative PCR test result. This must be taken within 72 hours before boarding.

A single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine counts as two doses. Anyone aged 12 and under are exempt from the rules.

All passengers must fill in a passenger health form before arrival. Covid-19 recovery certificates are not accepted by Moroccan authorities in place of a negative PCR test result. Random testing will be conducted upon arrival.

The Philippines

You can visit if you're fully vaccinated, but you'll need to show various proofs and documentation including proof of vaccination, valid return tickets, and a negative Covid test. This can be either a PCR test taken within 48 hours before departure, or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

Foreign nationals who are not fully vaccinated are not able to enter the Philippines, regardless of whether they've had a test or not.

Children aged 12 and under can visit provided they travel with parents/guardians who are fully vaccinated or have a valid exemption.
