Holiday-goers travelling to Spain and Portugal advised as travel warning lifted

Earlier this week any Irish holiday goers jetting off to Spain or Portugal were hit with a warning after Storm Oscar blasted parts of the Iberian peninsula.

The two countries are among some of the most popular holiday destinations for Irish holiday goers, especially this time of year. However, the storm caused quite a bit of chaos as flights were cancelled and delayed from Madeira Airport.

Thankfully though, after being placed under a red warning due to heavy rain, flooding and landslides - the conditions in the area are returning to normal.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (The FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Spain and Portugal as the storm has finally moved on, Manchester News reports.

Furthermore, guidance on weather warnings in the Canary Islands, Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores have also been removed.

Storm Oscar has now moved on from the island as the AEMET has removed its weather warnings for the Canary Islands while IPMA has also removed warnings for Madeira.

It isn’t all good news though, there are still a few yellow warnings are still in place as strong winds are in place for the Azores and some areas of mainland Portugal for now.

Weather expert Alan O'Reilly of the popular Twitter page Carlow Weather explained how the storm was expected to affect Ireland, as we were hit with some unsettled conditions over the weekend.

"While Storm Oscar won’t directly impact us it will bring about change in our weather,” the weather expert explained.

“High pressure will slip away and more unsettled and humid air will arrive with a risk of showers and even some thunder. However, rainfall amounts for the next seven days look pretty low on the latest charts.”
