Hogwarts Legacy starts off with a character creator, which offers a surprisingly strong number of options. You may not be able to mess with your facial features to create an eldritch horror like in Dark Souls, but there are enough changes that you can make a decent representation of yourself. Or you can create something entirely new and unique, it’s up to you.
However, as Hogwarts Legacy is a “choices matter” game, which means that each major choice you make can affect what you can do around the school. These changes are usually pretty minor, but there are still things you can miss out on.
Here are all the things you can do in the character creator in Hogwarts Legacy, and the changes that happen as a result.
Hogwarts Legacy: Should I choose to be a witch or wizard?
The character creator will let you choose your body type, voice type, and voice pitch whether you choose to be a witch or a wizard. However, it does affect whether you stay in the witch or wizard dorms. Most characters in the game will still refer to you by they/them pronouns. Essentially, no matter what your original choice, the game tries to refer to you as neutrally as possible.
This means that you can create your character how you like without worrying about the difference it makes in the game. Choosing between the dorms has a small impact, as it will change the characters you share a dorm with. The characters don’t treat you differently if you are a witch or a wizard, so you are free to choose either.
The witches’ dorm is obviously filled with witches, while the wizards’ dorm has wizards. There are no romantic options in the game, so it all depends on who you’d rather spend time with. Your dorm mates won’t give you items or take you on adventures, so the difference is simply down to the dialogue.
Overall, both character creation options, and your choice of dorm room have little impact on the game, so feel free to choose what suits you best.
